As the Edinburgh Medical Missionary Society, EMMS International was one of the pioneers of sponsored bike rides. In 1992, along with the then Norwood Ravenswood charity, the first ever sponsored bike ride was run, in Israel, from Dan to Beersheba – the length of the old Kingdom. Since then, bike rides and treks have been organised each year.
Bike rides are not only a tremendous way of seeing the country close at hand, and meeting local people, but are also a real challenge for the mind and body and an unforgettable spiritual experience.
The Christian element is strong on EMMS International bike rides. They will give you the time of your life and provide you with a real sense of achievement. At the same time, they raise vital funds for the work of medical mission in the country in which the event is being held.
Bike Rides are complex itineraries, which may be subject to change. All distances and journey times quoted are approximate. These events are not a ‘holiday’ but a challenge which cannot be completed without adequate training.
