Making a gift of Listed Shares and Securities
If you wish to donate Stocks or Shares, you can claim tax relief on gifts of listed shares and securities made to EMMS International, when calculating your income or profits for tax purposes. This is in addition to any Capital Gains Tax relief which may be applicable.

The relief applies when donating the whole beneficial interest to EMMS International. Tax relief is claimed at your top rate of tax. This applies to gifts from individuals and companies.

You can gift any number of shares to EMMS International but if you feel the number you have is too small to make a difference then they can be passed to another charity called ShareGift.

They accept shares as charitable donations, principally in small ‘odd lots’, which are useless to their owners as the cost of selling them would be greater than their worth.

They aggregate the shares into larger holdings and then sell them and the money given to charities at the discretion of ShareGift, although they listen to suggestions as to which charities might benefit.

Since it was launched in 1996, ShareGift has donated over £5m to hundreds of different charities. If you wish to donate to ShareGift, please mention that you would like the money to come to EMMS International.
