“Striving to Serve – Stretching to Love” - EHA’s Palliative Care (PC) Services
Praise God for:
· The palliative care team, especially for Leela Pradhan and Saroj Singh, the two home care nurses. The daughter of one of our patients has been trained as a volunteer; a new home care aide joined us in June; our faithful driver from Lalitpur town knows all the villages very well.
· A new jeep that gives freedom to plan home care visits efficiently.
· Completion of the 7-bed palliative care ward at Lalitpur and the ability to admit patients.
· Good networking and support by World Vision, the local churches, the District magistrate, and some Government medical practitioners.
Pray for:
· One more doctor, 2 more nurses and 5 volunteers to join the team.
· The plan to start a community college accredited with the Indira Gandhi National Open University. This is to train local village graduates as Health Assistants in Palliative Care. This 6-month course will equip participants to provide simple nursing care, dispense medication under supervision and provide psychosocial support in their own or adjacent villages.
· Our attempts to get Government subsidies for cancer patients. There are several schemes but the paperwork is arduous and delays are common. So far, most patients have died before the papers were approved.
· The new palliative care service started at Shalom, Delhi from January 2011 under the leadership of Mrs Muang, Nursing Superintendent.
