Prayer Focus - Week Commencing 25th September 2011

Jeevan Sahara Kendra (JSK), HIV/AIDS outreach project, Thane, India

· Praise God for an excellent Vacation Bible School held among children of people with HIV whom JSK ministers with. We were able to see over 120 kids come – most from very broken homes – and were blessed with a wonderful army of teachers and helpers who made each child feel special.

· Continue to uphold the staff, volunteers and interns at Jeevan Sahara Kendra. We are in the final 2 weeks of the hot season and God has graciously kept us from serious illness or injuries. We will now be transitioning to a very wet time as the monsoons are due to hit us in mid June. Pray for protection during the hazardous travels across Thane to meet people with HIV in their homes.

· Uphold the voluntary HIV testing and counselling work at Jeevan Sahara Kendra. We are able to meet with men (mainly) who have been exposed through sexual contact – and help them come to terms with their HIV status. By God’s grace most of the people we test are HIV negative – and we have many opportunities to help young men make changes in their behaviours. Praise God that our centre is recognised by the Govt. for HIV testing and so our reports can be used in govt. hospitals as well.

· Pray that the door will open for us to distribute the AntiRetroviral Therapy (ART) medication from the Government programme. We would like to be a partner with the government to give out the free ART medications – we have managed to get over 100 of our HIV positive friends enrolled in the Thane Govt. centre and would like to follow up with the care of these and others through the new JSK Community Care Centre at the Lok Hospital Building.

· We continue to need at least 1 more doctor and 3 more nurses to help run the new JSK Community Care Centre. Pray that the Lord will raise up Indian doctors and nurses to meet the challenge.
