Prayer Focus - Week Commencing 3rd July
July 28, 2011 - 10:37
Linda McCance, Senior Project Officer, EMMS International
“You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.” Psalm 56:8 (NLT)
In ancient Egypt and Palestine and throughout the Roman Empire, women collected their tears shed during the mourning of a loved one and stored them in tear bottles, which would be placed in the tomb as a sign of their devotion.
The Psalmist tells us that God keeps a record of our tears and that he saves some of those tears in a bottle. Our tears speak a very special language to the very heart of God.
- In the last few weeks EMMS has seen the passing of a number of very dear friends: Dr Jean Orr, formerly Head of the Medicines for Overseas Team, and Miss Mary Muir, Secretary. Both worked as volunteers at the EMMS office for over twenty years. We give thanks for lives well lived and for their faithfulness.
- Father, we remember today those that we love and have lost. We give thanks for warm memories, shared laughter, the pleasure and the blessings that we enjoyed in their company.
- We can only imagine what heaven will be like, but it is our sure and certain hope. We either follow the path of despair or put our trust in God and, though we cannot understand, we accept His sovereignty. Father, we pray for those who are experiencing a loss of any kind; that they would find comfort as they adjust to a difficult situation and that, through time, their joy in life will be restored.
International Nepal Fellowship (INF), Surkhet, Nepal
- The political situation in Nepal is unstable. Please pray for increased stability, for the Constituent Assembly and for all people in positions of power and authority.
- There has been political deadlock in the country for a long time, holding up the completion of a new draft constitution. Pray that a draft constitution will be agreed soon that is acceptable to all parties.
- In recent weeks there have been many strikes (bundhs), which disrupt the day-to-day life of so many people in Nepal. Please pray for a breakthrough, for compromise, resolution and for peace.
- INF's Project Agreement with the Government of Nepal, which details INF work for the next five years, has still not been signed. This is due to no-one with the authority to sign the agreement occupying the relevant ministerial position. Ask God that the right person would be appointed so that the agreement can finally be signed.
