Prayer Focus - Week Commencing 4th December 2011
November 30, 2011 - 12:41
Ian Campbell, EMMS International Trustee and Board Chair
“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.” Psalm 100:1-2 (NIV)
- As you read Psalm 100, think of our Christian Brothers and Sisters we support. Give thanks to God that we are able to rejoice and share in the wonder of his creation across country and nation.
- Give thanks to God for our lives and service to him. Give thanks for our situation, our country, our wealth, our friends, family and Christian witness. We have the ability to do so much more for others than most people in the world. Consider the billions who are living in poverty and how we might feel if we were one of them, knowing that there are others who are able to share their wealth. Pray for a fairer world and ask God to give us a strong sense of conscience.
- As Malawi moves from its hot season into its rainy season, which brings with it an increased chance of Malaria, pray for those at risk from the disease, particularly those living along the lakeshore. Pray for the young children, who are most vulnerable, and for the hospital staff who tirelessly care for their own people using very limited resources.
- Pray for EMMS International partners in India, Nepal and Malawi. Pray that their relationships may be God-centered and that, by sharing and working on the plans that God has for his people in these countries, his Will may be done.
- Continue to pray for the government in Malawi. Pray that they may fulfill their obligation to serve their country and their people. Pray that a sense of compassion may descend upon them and that they may be truly worthy of their elected positions.
- Consider your involvement with EMMS International as a supporter and how you feel led to be involved in the work of Christ through your support. Pray for direction and purpose in your involvement. If you know other EMMS supporters, then encourage each other through conversation and prayer.
- As we all experience the effects to some degree of harder times due to our economic situation, let us not use it as an excuse to put ourselves first at the expense of others. Pray for an even stronger sense of compassion and caring. Ask God to give us perspective in our lives.
- As we think ahead to 2012, let us not adopt an attitude of complacency. Let us not be distracted by other things. Poverty and inequality don’t go away. Pray for personal direction and guidance in our efforts to live a more Christ-like life.
