‘Without the support from EMMS, attaining a degree would have been a far-fetched dream’Wise Ndawa
Education at Mulanje
Here two beneficiaries of EMMS International's support at Mulanje in Malawi - Wise Ndawa and Jane Mweziwina - tell us about their work and how your support has helped them.

- Coordinating youth programmes.
- Developing action plans for youth clubs as well as youth centre
- Facilitating and planning for trainings.
- Keep inventory of youth centre recreational materials
- Consolidate activity reports for all youth clubs in the catchment area and youth centre
- Develop, plan and implement relevant youth programs.
- Monitor the performance of youth clubs in reference to planned activity.

- Conduct monthly meetings and quarterly meetings for youth clubs
- Ensure youth activities are carried in line with the planned activities of the Primary Health care department.
- Promote youth awareness in HIV/AIDS testing and prevention
- Hamonise youth activities in the catchment area of Mulanje Mission Hospital.
Apart from my normal job am also doing a degree program at Share World Open University pursuing Bachelor of Science in HIV and AIDS management and am in third year. I opted for the program because it is in line with my current job and i strongly believe that once I graduate it will be of great benefit to me as well as the hospital. The catchment area of Mulanje Mission Hospital has a population of 75,000 people of which 38% are young people who are at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS and early pregnancies but through professional skills that I will gain from my studies I will be able to help and support youth prommes and also help to mainstream HIV/AIDS in catchment area through hospital set-up systems.
Lastly, am grateful to EMMS for paying my schools fees to complete my studies. Without the support from EMMS attaining a degree would have been a far-fetched dream.
Jane Mweziwina:
My name is Jane Mweziwina. I am the Primary Health Care (PHC) Coordinator for Mulanje Mission Hospital, Malawi.
I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health Nursing and I am currently studying for an Executive Masters’ in Business Administration with the Eastern and Southern Africa Management Institute (ESAMI), with financial support form EMMS.
As PHC coordinator, my responsibilities include:
· Supervision and administration of all PHC activities
· Overall work planning for the PHC
· Resource mobilisation
· Financial management for PHC
The MBA broadens my scope of knowledge and understanding and enables me to initiate and plan for programmes that are acceptable in the global arena, bearing in mind that this world is becoming a global village.
The financial aspect of the course enables me to comprehend issues of budgeting, management of financial and other resources. There is also a component of leadership, organisational behaviour and management of cultural diversity that enriches my capacity to lead the PHC team and work with people from different cultural backgrounds.
EMMS came to my rescue when I was in dire need of financial support to complete my studies. I am there fore grateful to EMMS for the timely assistance, without which my MBA could have just been a wish.
