‘HOPE (Homecare, Orphans, Prevention, Enabling churches)’Shalom's mission
Shalom Delhi AIDS
Based in a very poor part of Delhi, the Shalom AIDS programme has two aspects to it – Critical Care and HOPE (Homecare, Orphans, Prevention, Enabling churches). Over 50,000 people in Delhi are living with HIV & AIDS, and there are only10 HIV & AIDS clinics. Only Shalom offers Critical Care.
Over 300 patients are registered at the Shalom clinic, with 20 new patients being added each month. Education on HIV & AIDS is given to patients as needed, and the clinic is supporting 10 families with basic food packages.
EMMS International supports the Critical Care Programme with £5,000 per year. In addition, we have purchased an Oxygen Concentrator for the clinic. This year we provided Shalom with an additional £5,000 towards the Critical Care Programme.
Shalom is also engaging with local churches to reach out to people in a local slum called Kali Basti. This project goes beyond HIV & AIDS by tackling many of the social challenges that perpetuate poverty and that can lead to behaviours that put people at risk of becoming infected with HIV.
