Cycle from Glasgow to the holy island of Iona and follow in the footsteps of Saints.

Pass through beautiful spots by Loch Lomond, on to Oban the seafood capital of Scotland and before setting sail to Mull and Iona. Explore hidden places of peace and beauty in the most stunning and unspoilt landscapes in Scotland. Experience the trip of a lifetime on Cycle Iona.

The Details

Dates: 25th - 27th September 2015

Location: Balloch, north of Glasgow to Iona

  • Day 1: Cycle Balloch (Glasgow) to Oban – 70 miles approx.
  • We meet in Balloch at 8am to be fully briefed on the journey ahead. The first day’s cycling guarantees stunning scenery as we pass by Loch Lomond on our way to Oban. We arrive around 4.30pm, and will enjoy dinner in the evening as we admire the near perfect horseshoe shaped bay.


  • Day 2: Oban to Iona– 50 miles approx.
  • We take an early morning ferry to Craignure, Mull and cycle around the island of Mull. After lunch we catch the ferry to Iona and we are scheduled to cross the finish line at 5pm! We’ll settle down to a well-deserved dinner in the evening.
  • Day 3: Return Iona to Balloch
  • On our last day of the challenge there is the option to attend a Sunday service at the Abbey. We leave Iona by ferry at just after midday. A coach will take us across Mull and we’ll catch the ferry back to Oban at 3pm. Once we arrive, it is another coach ride to from Oban to our destination, Balloch. We‘re scheduled to arrive back at 5.30pm.

Who can take part?

Cycle Iona is open to open to everyone from experienced cyclists to those wishing to try out their first challenge cycle. You will be supported with training advice as well as being looked after by our Events Partner Sport Ecosse.


You should bring your own bike to take part in this challenge.

Early bird offer of £95 until 20th April, £145 thereafter.

Each participant is asked to fundraise a minimum of £845 in support of our international healthcare projects in Malawi, India and Nepal. Your donations will go to those who are most in need and will help to transform the lives of people in some of the world’s poorest communities.

Group discounts are available for 4 or more sign ups.
