August Prayer Focus

Our partners at Duncan Hospital in Bihar, north India are braced for the storm as coronavirus cases rise dramatically. There are over 45,000 cases in Bihar, mostly recorded in July with the expectation that this number will rise sharply in the weeks ahead. Dr Prabhu writes:

“The last two weeks saw a lot of fear and panic in the district. We had our first confirmed positive patient. Following this we began to get a lot of patients with similar symptoms. As we still don't have testing approval, we can't really say who is truly positive. The quiet town of Raxaul suddenly had 95 positive patients and we were instantly in the limelight easily overtaking the rest of the towns by a long distance. There was a visible increase in the fear and anxiety in the staff…We are so far doing well by the grace of God.
COVID has continued to surprise everyone and I hope we are able to handle its surprises. We continue to pray and depend on the Lord. I hope you all are safe and keeping well. We constantly remember you in prayer along with all the friends who have helped us through these times.”

Added to this, Bihar has had heavy rains and flooding affecting 218,000 people, with 36,448 people evacuated from their homes.

Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Praise God for the security and peace we find in Him, that He is with us in the worst of times.

2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Pray for peace and hope for those whose lives have been devastated by the rains and floods

Give thanks for the perseverance and faithfulness of frontline workers, and pray they will not be afraid.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. 5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

Give thanks that God is in control. Pray for more effective testing. Pray for God’s help for doctors and nurses learning how to use ventilators. Pray the hospital will have the capacity to care for every patient

The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields[d] with fire.

Pray for an end to this pandemic and for a rapid fall in the numbers of cases in Bihar this month.

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Pray for continued awareness of God’s grace and presence for our staff team at the Duncan Hospital. Give thanks that God reigns, pray that His name will be honoured among the nations.
