January Prayer Focus

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11

Our new year’s resolutions are a faint shadow in the light of God’s plans for us. As we look ahead to a new year we can look forward with hope. While we cope with present uncertainties we find assurance in the fact that God knows.

At the start of a new school year in Malawi much remains uncertain. Coronavirus cases are high and previous waves have caused prolonged school closures. This has contributed to a rise in teenage pregnancies. There is hope in the future, though, with girls choosing to return to school after having their babies.

Please pray for an end to the growing healthcare crisis in Malawi. Severe drug shortages are affecting many areas of healthcare from critical surgeries to chronic care. The current COVID wave is adding to the pressure on an already stressed healthcare system.

Pray for all those returning to school, in particular for new mums. Give thanks for their commitment to education and building a brighter future for themselves and their families.

Pray for Nurse Manju as she continues her professional studies and prepares for the Sunita project starting later this year. Give thanks for her commitment to caring for the most vulnerable and training others to do the same.

Pray that amid our own uncertainties we will each do what we can to partner with God in giving others hope for the future. Give thanks for the generosity and commitment of many EMMS International supporters. Pray that others will be inspired to join in, including through the Go The Distance Malawi Challenge.
