Prayer Focus - October

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6-7 NIV

'Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.' The words of mathematician John Allen Paulos perhaps feel like they gain more relevance each day. The pace, diversity and impact of change may seem unprecedented.

From whatever area of life they might come, as Christians, we can bring our anxieties to God. In exchange, we are promised peace which transcends all understanding. We can take up that invitation personally and on behalf of others as we do in these Prayer Focus articles.

No wonder the popular gospel song proclaims - "What a privilege to carry, everything to God in Prayer."

  1. We pray for the ongoing economic struggles in Malawi following the devaluation of the Kwacha. In particular, we pray that the prolonged fuel shortage would come to an end and that stability would return to fuel supplies and the vital services that rely upon them.

  2. We give thanks for those who choose to stand together through global challenges through prayer and giving. We're grateful to those who have shown support for the Perfect Storm appeal to help EMMS International and its partners respond to urgent health needs in times of compiling global crises.

  3. We pray for those left counting the cost and rebuilding their lives after the monsoon season in Nepal and India. We pray for peace, restoration and resilience for those affected. We pray for preparations for the COP27 climate summit in Egypt next month, and for action from those with the power and the responsibility to make meaningful change to address the climate crisis.

  4. We give thanks for all those who have benefitted from a restful and restorative break at Hawthorn Brae cottage thanks to the partnership between EMMS and VOCAL to provide a facility for respite holidays for people with life-limiting illnesses and those who care for them.
