The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with his justice and righteousness. He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure. For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us. - Isaiah 33: 5-6, 22
Political tensions fill our headlines. Not only the machinations of the US election process but closer to home as well. In many ways, the current pandemic has only served to deepen divides in our nations. Amidst the shifting opinions and changing rules that have marked this year, the Lord remains constant.
We share many concerns with our brothers and sisters in Nepal, Malawi and India over health, economies and education. We recognise that not every government has the same resources at its disposal and each nation has its own political climate. We're encouraged by the steady move to a peaceful political situation in Malawi, even during the coronavirus pandemic.
Our political leaders are making difficult decisions, day by day, hour by hour. It is right that we pray for them as they lead us through the current crisis. Not only for coronavirus but in every area of responsibility. We pray that they will have wisdom and knowledge for each decision that they make.
At the same time, we are thankful to God - He will be the sure foundation for our times.
Let’s pray together:
For our political leaders. Pray that they would have the wisdom and knowledge that they need to lead through the current circumstances.
For the leaders and governments of Malawi, India and Nepal. Each nation faces its own challenges and priorities, pray that each nation would have the leadership that it needs and deserves for such a time as this.
For peace and patience. Politics and the current pandemic have collided to create even greater uncertainty. Pray that we would all exercise patience when the way ahead is not always clear, and seek to live at peace with one another.
For a spirit of unity. We celebrate the cooperation between neighbours and between nations during this year to care for those who are vulnerable, and ask that that spirit of unity would continue to grow amongst us.
For a refreshed focus on God. He is our judge and lawgiver, and we give thanks for He is unchanging, our foundation in times of uncertainty. It is He who will save us.
