Welcoming Two New Directors to EMMS International

EMMS International is delighted to welcome two new members of staff to the organisation: Elaine Mulcahy, Director of Communications, and Vanessa Rhazali, Director of Fundraising.

Elaine and Vanessa join EMMS International with a wealth of experience in their respective fields and a shared commitment to work that improves lives and strengthens communities. Their appointments come at an important time for the organisation, and we are excited about the leadership, insight and expertise they will bring as EMMS continues to work alongside partners to improve healthcare for some of the world’s most vulnerable people.

We are delighted to welcome Elaine and Vanessa to EMMS International and look forward to the contribution they will make in the months and years ahead.

Elaine Mulcahy, Director of Communications

Elaine has worked in communications roles since 2003, covering multiple areas including public affairs, media, marketing, magazine publishing, internal communications, and outreach. Since 2010, she has developed and led strategic communications for organisations committed to improving human health. She led the corporate communications and marketing department at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow from 2010-2021 and was Director of the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change from 2021-2026. In this role, Elaine developed a wide understanding of the severe impacts of climate change on health and health systems, particularly for the most vulnerable people in society.

Elaine has a BSc (Hons) in Experimental Physics and Biology and a PhD in Bioengineering. She completed post-doctoral research in neurophysiology at the University of Sydney and Australian National University before moving to a career in health and science communications.

Vanessa Rhazali, Director of Fundraising

Vanessa has worked in fundraising since 1995 and holds a BA (Hons) in Commerce (Napier University, 1991), a Diploma in Direct Marketing (Kings College, 1997) and Diploma in Fundraising Management (Chartered Institute of Fundraising, 2012). She has worked with both UK and Scottish charities in a variety of senior fundraising and communications positions.

A multi-award-winning fundraising professional, Vanessa brings valuable experience across all funding streams, team development, strategy, planning and change management. She is a proud fundraiser who enjoys supporting and developing first-class teams, sourcing and growing sustainable income and raising vital awareness for the causes closest to her heart.
