Expanding Palliative Care in Rurual Rwanda
Malawi, Rwanda
Non-Communicable Disease
This one-year project, running from January to December 2025, is equipping frontline healthcare workers in 16 rural health facilities across Malawi’s Central and Northern regions to deliver compassionate, high-quality palliative care.
The project aims to reach 4,207 patients, the majority of whom are women, with the care and support they need to manage serious or life-limiting illness. It also includes training for 872 healthcare professionals across Malawi and Rwanda, strengthening local health systems and ensuring care is both accessible and sustainable.
Beyond clinical training, the project supports long-term impact through peer-to-peer learning, the development of local language resources, and family-led peer support networks ensuring palliative care is not only available, but truly community-based.
