EMMS International is Scotland's longest-serving international healthcare charity having been set up in Edinburgh in 1841. Its mission is to help improve health and healthcare, to heal the sick in some of the poorest communities in the world. This includes developing healthcare human resources via education, improving climate-friendly infrastructure in hospitals, tackling the emerging vast numbers of Non-Communicable Disease cases through improving palliative care, and responding to health emergencies in places where our partners work. All EMMS work tackles inequalities and discrimination based on matters such as age, disability, sex, religion or belief, and so empowers the vulnerable. EMMS also has one project in Scotland within its palliative care programme.
There is a small but very expert staff team of 7. Each person joining EMMS supports the overall strategic goals and growth of the organisation. Each person’s views and opinions matter in a charity which prides itself on a fantastic collegiate and collaborative culture.
EMMS is currently rolling out a new fundraising strategy which is focussed on diversifying its income channels. In a drive to grow its major gift income, it is looking for an outstanding Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships to raise awareness across multiple audiences and, specifically, develop the strategy around High Net Worth individuals (HNWI) and Ultra HNWI as well as corporate partnerships. EMMS already enjoys some success in this area but is looking for a very driven and experienced person to attract new donors and supporters. This is a solo role within the fundraising team, so you will need to have the drive, determination and tenacity to deliver excellent results as well as the knowledge, skills and experience. You will have the support of the very experienced Director of Fundraising and Communications.
We are interested in hearing from candidates who have a major gift fundraising or client-facing sales/account management background. You will need to evidence excellent prospect research, stewardship and cultivation skills. A passion for and commitment to the work of EMMS is essential. While EMMS was founded on Christian principles, it is a non-denominational charity and only asks that its staff are respectful of Christian values as this may be a motivational element for some supporters.
